Witchcraft and Scrying (or a crystal ball to see into the future)
Premonition is an old word for the practice of crystal-looking or using some similar means to achieve clairvoyance used in witchcraft. It 'similar to "prove" a word that originally meant to reveal, and to find out to see. Premonition is a more general look at the crystal, because it embraces all forms of clairvoyance development or staring at some object. Witches use this in conjunction with their spells and rituals.
The object used in divination is called a "speculum". Over the centuries, a large number of different objects have been used for this purpose. The globe of clear glass, with the use of which most people know, is just one of a great variety of such speculation.
The practice of witchcraft is common to witches of all ages and countries. Like magic in general, is as old as man himself, and is still as popular as it was contemporaneous with the witches long ago.
The witches of the past have often possess a crystal ball for two reasons. First, a crystal ball itself is a precious and expensive. Most so-called "crystals" are actually just glass. The most recent development in this field is that of transparent acrylic plastic globes. These are, however, described as a crystal ball "in their advertising in magazines. Real Rock Crystal is a semi-precious stone, a ball made from it is heavy, and bitter cold. It takes an expert to distinguish reality from imitation. So precious crystals - usually round, but sometimes egg-shaped or pear-shaped - has become precious heirlooms handed down through generations and beyond the means of most poor witch.
Secondly, a crystal ball is not only expensive and precious, it was dangerous to own. To have what is in a house, immediately condemned the owner of magical practices. On days when witchcraft was a hanging matter, witches found it wise to improvise their own speculum of things that might be found innocent in every home - a rule that have followed many of their other tools.
Consequently, a black bowl filled with water is quite popular as a speculum. So are the old glass globes used by fishermen as floats for nets. These are often in plain dark green or blue glass, and to end speculation.
Today, antique dealers sometimes sell these objects floating fishing as "witch balls". Are not, even if the witches use them.
Some Witches use a blue glass bottle as a speculum, filling the bottle with water. A ball of black glass was particularly appreciated, reflection is even higher in a real crystal ball. Others believed that the best speculum was a ball of pale green beryl crystal.
In the future, I will describe as a crystal ball .......
