Vintage Decor For The Kitchen

When it comes to paint, the kitchen is a favorite by far. Many consider the kitchen as the heart of the house and is certainly the room where we spend most of our time so it makes sense to give a fresh style and decorator.

A style of decoration which is becoming very popular is a retro or vintage style and the addition of period decorations for your kitchen can be a fun way to get a new look, and acquire a certain collection clean that you can show your guests.

When decorating, you should consider the wall color, flooring, window treatments, furniture and, of course, accessories. To accentuate your vintage decor, you might want to consider using vintage tile on the walls or paint color vintage. Some combinations of colors for popular vintage kitchens include cream and green, red and white, pink and blue. In these days of 1970 retro styles are popular so you might even consider going with a harvest gold or avocado green and orange color scheme.

Your window treatments can have a big effect on the look of your vintage furnishings. One of my favorite ways to accentuate a vintage kitchen is to use the tents of the era. You can still find nice curtains of all time without paying an arm and leg for them and if you can not find something suitable, you can always cut some vintage tablecloths or dish towels and make tents out of them.

Decorative elements are key to pull the look together with vintage furnishings. Even if you can not replace all other items - you can get a new look by changing the decorative accessories! Concentrate on getting tablecloths, dishware and canisters, in colors and patterns that match your particular style of vintage furniture. Stainless steel containers and breadboxes are very popular as are sets of metal canister models such as cherries, plain pink and powder blue. Make sure you include a lot of yard sale finds vintage with interesting old articles as well as vintage plates, tablecloths and towels.

Use wall space to show your findings from the very old. You can display collectibles and strange objects on shelves or hang on the wall right in clusters. Remember when viewing items is better to group them in odd numbers, and vary the height to add interest. When objects hanging on the walls, put them in a geometric design that you can try putting together the first floor to see how it will look.

You should not take a lot of skill or money to get a very vintage look to the kitchen. Shopping smart and a good eye for antique accessories is all it takes to be great period decor you'll enjoy every day .......
