Public Relations at Work - a useful formula for communication, which reduces errors
If you could reduce the number of serious mistakes in your life with a solution that does not cost anything, would you do? Many hospitals are reducing deaths and injuries from errors. "Poor communication in medical practice is one of the most common causes of medical errors," said Richard M. Frankel, Ph.D., professor of medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a researcher at the Health Services Research and Development Center on Implementing Evidence-Based Practice.

There are different models. Most involve a structured way to have a multi-step conversation in just a minute or two. "It's not rocket science," said Dr. Frankel. An example is the S-B-A-R model:
S - Situation. Describe the problem in a simple sentence.
B - Background. Anticipate the questions of the listeners on the situation and provide these answers.
A - Assessment. Summarize your observations about the situation.
R - Recommendation. Provide a specific recommendation to solve the problem.
The use of such a formula forces both the speaker and the listener to move through a discussion in a predictable way, the logic flow. It traverses the hierarchy. It allows people with different communication styles to "get on the same page." It puts more weight on the conversation. It causes the listener to react to the recommendation of the speaker, rather than passively take information. It saves time by cutting through superfluous details. A briefing landed can be done in only 60 seconds or less.
A large hospital in Illinois implemented the approach and landed reduced cases of harm to patients by more than half in the first year, according to The Wall Street Journal.
This technique was created in the aviation sector, in which NASA and other agencies have recognized that the hierarchy interferes with communication in a crisis, said Dr. Frankel. The surgeons, ship captains and others at the top of a hierarchy often do not receive critical information because subordinates are unable or unwilling to speak in a clear and decisive. Many years ago when I started teaching programs American Management Association, I came across the term "congruence". Since 1960, the fashion world has taken a position in numerous social causes. The anti-war movements and women's rights are just a couple of areas where the fashion world has made strong statements. More recently, fashion has taken care to speak and for different charitable causes and in some cases, has been called into question just whose interests are involved.
A prime example of this was the collaboration between Gucci, Prada and Armani and UNICEF, the UN Children's Fund. The reasons and motivations behind this particular collaboration has been questioned by some international groups and, perhaps more significant for the United Nations, from the very front line workers who would receive the proceeds.
Members of the senior staff of UNICEF have strongly expressed their disappointment with close ties to the charity with the world of glamor and celebrity, saying it was demeaning for the work that the UN is doing, as well as having a strong smell of hypocrisy of it.
UNICEF in Pakistan and India have spoken against the alleged working practices of the French group PPR (formerly Pinault-Printemps-Redoute), owners of Gucci and whose Asian suppliers have, for a number of years, has been linked to sweatshops Mumbai and Karachi.
An employee's long-term UNICEF said that, for him, this partnership with Gucci was the final straw and that the feeling among workers is almost unanimous that the name UNICEF is hurt by this company.
Another problem arises with the close links between celebrities and almost every major humanitarian catastrophe. Put the star and his entourage is bad enough, but the connection in the public eye between celebrities and disaster relief demeans and degrades the entire effort, say the front line workers of the earth.

In the past, if 50 or 100 years ago, large organizations were in the shape of the symbols of the early civilizations, the pyramids. Common sense of purpose, any organization, in the first place, is a group of people with an identity of the team. Cultivating this sense is the main task of organizational leaders. People working together can do extraordinary things, so the essence of an organization depends on the unified vision of the team members.
Once the vision is in place, the ideas, creativity and innovation will come from the same team, but the leader still plays an absolutely essential. He or she must direct and concentrate all the energy. Leaders must keep team members informed about how their work affects the organization, its customers or clients, and the outside world as a whole.
So the creation of a shared purpose is a key element of organizational leadership, but there is another way to make the same point. Leaders must make it clear that success is a group experience, but so is anything less than success.
The meaning is very simple. Unless the whole team wins, nobody wins. Individual records are good in history books or almanacs, but they are seriously out of place in today's competitive organizations. What matters at all, is the performance of the whole group.
A sense of worth, people need to feel important. If they are denied that the feeling they give us less than maximum effort for the project at hand. So an effective organizational leader allows many decisions as possible to go through the whole group. Let the bubble ideas of all team members. Do not dictate solutions. Do not insist that things be done in a certain way.
Organizational leaders focus on the job at hand, but not an end in itself. Each work must be a learning experience leads to even better performance and greater accountability for the future. Five Self-Leadership principles to maximize your potential
How often we meet people who make us ask why they are not doing much more with their lives? Of course, life is theirs to spend how they please. But if they understood the vastness of their potential and found a clear path to tap into it, would have made different decisions? Would you?
Much of the discussion of leadership is the subject primarily as a social concept. The relationship between leaders and followers is explored with an eye to how the group's objectives can be achieved. Millions of dollars are spent each year on leadership development and leadership challenges are still the bane of many organizations. A key reason for this is that the principles which make it effective leaders are not grown overnight. Regardless of the amount of information packed into an MBA program or a high-powered seminar weeks, unless the individual has had time to lay the proper foundation, the result will be mediocre.
The same leadership principles that enable effective leaders to inspire great results from followers can help an individual to identify and implement steps to maximize their potential. The intentional application of the principles of self-organized leadership development is called self-leadership. People who come to their development in this way is positioned for dramatic personal and professional success. They are better prepared to lead their lives, teams and organizations. First, individuals who can not successfully conduct can not effectively lead others.
Self-leadership is not only puts the driver's seat, helps you navigate your future with the fewest errors, distractions and obstacles as possible. Each person has a gift or talent. Some have an eye for detail, others the gift of the robe. Many people have a talent for writing, other talents to solve puzzles. It 's natural ability that allows us to make a difference in the world.
The essence of self-discovery is to identify your natural talent. It begins the process by placing the following fundamental question: What is I have a natural talent or affinity? This could be an easy question for many, but a difficult year for some. An effective way to find out what you have an innate propensity for it, as far as possible, embracing every opportunity that comes your way. Opportunities in this context includes all activities that allow you to invest themselves in a productive way. From sports strange, unusual, challenging hobby for college courses on-the-job assignments that are on the edge of your background, the wider the variety of activities they undertake, the more likely you are going to discover your innate ability.
Some people are versatile. While retaining talents in different areas of life has its advantages, it is difficult to reach your potential with a focus spread. If you are in this category, consider this second question popularized by Jim Collins in his book Good to Great: What is you're best in the world? The results of your efforts, constant feedback from people around you, and honest self-evaluation are essential to decipher where it excels most. The next step is to examine the reason for which excel in the area identified. Your result will probably reveal a dominance or a clear demonstration of your talent.
Spiritual development. A subject that was once taboo, spirituality is slowly gaining in the corporate world. This is due, in part, the increasing focus of leadership research and writings on the development of the whole person. Furthermore, as a strong and visionary leadership is increasingly becoming a competitive advantage, entrepreneurs are willing to cross traditional boundaries to get the benefit.
There is a spiritual dimension of every human being. And 'one of our less controversial elements of differentiation from lesser creatures. To ignore it is to deny an important driver and enabler to maximize our potential.
Regardless of personal beliefs or religious predilections, spirituality is manifested in the daily activities of people play. For example, when a venture capitalist invests in a boot sector, hopes, believes, or believes that the company will be successful. A surgeon about to perform a threatening life hopes that the patient survives. The same applies to a cop that goes behind the criminals per day. Without faith, could be overcome by fear. Character development. Although the education system does a relatively excellent job of imparting knowledge and developing mental intelligence, character education is not his forte. Few university courses address issues of integrity, honesty, chastity, fairness, justice, social etiquette, and good citizenship. Those that do often examine topics from a theoretical point of view, ignoring their quintessence, as socio-moral imperatives.
Incidentally, the heel is a character flaw of many individuals made the Achilles'. The list of notables killed or disgraced by greed, lust, dishonesty, among other vices, is still growing. What you probably did not contemplate was doing time in a state penitentiary. If John Rigas, founder and former CEO of Adelphia, and his son Timothy considered prison, failed to take the measures necessary to excise the core of their fraudulent character. Andrew Fastow, Enron's former Chief Financial Officer who, along with many of his colleagues, reached rock star status in corporate America, did not respect the border between intelligence and ethics. In addition to untold public embarrassment, his lack of moral will cost him and his family a few years longer.
The subjects mentioned above are not self-destructive types. They have decided to fail. Having discovered and fully invested their talents, most of them were at the peak of their career when disaster struck. On the way up, they managed to work around their weaknesses and, inevitably, their poor judgment caught up together with them.
The character is a person of unyielding standard of conduct. It 'a filter through which all must pass the first thoughts of being treated as a decision and is manifested in word, action or behavior. Honesty, integrity and fairness are traits that transcend national boundaries, cultural and temporal. At a minimum, must be inextricably woven into the moral fiber of every person concerned to fully exploit its potential and sustain the success that results. These people do not have to worry about sacrificing the benefits of their hard work at the altar of the usual vices.
The family is an ideal starting point for the cultivation of sound moral values. Exploring spirituality through organized religion is useful in establishing and cultivating values. Moreover, the interests of each organization to build a culture that respects ethical standards. The training will inculcate critical elements of the culture.
Preparation. Life is a series of progressive positions. It should prove themselves in small tasks to move to larger and better. A proper and thorough preparation is an inescapable prerequisite for successfully completing all tasks. A laissez-faire attitude toward the preparation will slow your progress and impact on the ability to access their full potential.
Discussed in greater detail in my book The Star Principle, the following five principles of preparation will put you in good position to get the most out of your talent:
one. Leading a disciplined life.
Discipline is the restraint that prevents our freedom of choice to destroy us. And 'the will to create and the ability to comply with an action plan. It ignores self-indulgence, laziness, lust, and other debilitating conditions in a similar way.
Discipline maximizes the efficiency in that things are getting fixed times. A disciplined person is credible and reliable as his words and actions always match. Without discipline, the other teachings will give best results.
b. Embrace lifelong learning.
Your talent will take you places, but not before he was discovered and refined. Perhaps you have heard the expression "knowledge is not lost." Make a personal commitment to explore the essence of every teaching situation will give you a critical advantage in a world that depends on knowledge. The principle of self-discovery emphasizes snatch every opportunity to apply your skills. Excellence requires that you make the most of the opportunity to hone existing skills and acquire new ones. It requires a desire to experiment with new ideas. Excellence-minded people are not averse to change. They see it as an opportunity to test and further develop their innate abilities.
d. Get an early start.
Many people describe it as a last-minute people. Although they are often late, their preparatory efforts will probably not complete or comprehensive as it can be. In addition to creating unnecessary stress, an eleventh-hour approach to life can be the difference between "A" and "B" students, between going home with a trophy or not, between excellence and mediocrity. Reaching your potential requires much effort, tenacity and commitment of time last ditch effort alone can not achieve.
Your future should be one of the few areas that offer protection from the increasingly dominant snap-decision approach to life. Speed may be the most obvious course of business since the industrial revolution, but only those who spend the time necessary to master the rules of the game can apply their talents so they come out ahead.
and. Be prepared for the unexpected.
Relentless preparation is the most effective approach to manage the unknown. It minimizes the tendency to be distracted by a potential threat and increases the chances of having a desirable outcome. Remember when computers were introduced into the world of work. Wary of technology, many companies suspended their old machines. Even if it were to resist their employees who understand the concept of always being ready has taken steps, some of them on their own dime, and acquired skills. Even if they did not know when their employers embrace the new technology, their visionary move temporarily from their walled-in obsolescence. This attitude makes for a successful self-leadership.
Vision. A vision is a dream or an image of the future that moves us to act. The stronger the vision, the more it stimulates our minds, engages our body, and causes us to engage in activities to actualize it.
Visioning, which is what happens when we engage our talent and experience in the thought process of formulating and refining the idea of a better future, is the key to unlock your potential. First, you become what you dream. People who are serious about becoming all that they can put their imagination to better use.
Share. Your potential is a call to action. In other words, the only way to find what you are capable of is to do something. Whether you are discovering more about themselves, drawing on your spiritual intelligence, molding your character, prepare for the unexpected, or imagining a desired future, the time to start is now!
Conclusion. Self-leadership is to use the six principles of your journey to make the most of your potential. By the time you begin to reap the benefits of the sixth principle, have discovered what Stephen Covey calls your voice in The Habit 8.
